The Effective Statistician Launch and Lifecycle Program

Do you want to know more about how new medicines get from health authority approval to clinical practice and patients?

Are you curious about how you could increase your impact with evidence generation?

Are you interested in career paths for statisticians or organizational development to address evolving needs of stakeholders beyond health authorities?

We - Jenny Devenport & Alexander Schacht - have more than 3 decades of experience in end-to-end drug development, including medical affairs. In 2021 we founded the Launch and Lifecycle Special Interest group to assemble other statisticians aiming to increase their impact in this space.

We have distilled external research, dozens of discussions, and our combined experience in this area into this course.

Through The Effective Statistician Launch and Lifecycle Course, you will be able to:

  • Bring your contributions in all different areas of medical affairs to a completely new level,
  • Clearly demonstrate your impact, and
  • Become a key and highly valued leader within your statistics organisation.

The course will cover:

  • What success looks like within medical affairs,
  • A strategy to achieve this success for yourself (and for your team),
  • Many practical tips for effective implementation.

The Effective Statistician Launch and Lifecycle Course in detail:

  • About 3 hours of videos broken down in easy to view segments (lifetime access)
  • Access to 6 one-hour questions and answer sessions every other week with Alexander and Jenny starting in April 2024. These will be recorded and made available.

Alexander Schacht

Alexander Schacht is a Statistician, Founder and Creator of The Effective Statistician, which includes a weekly podcast, several online courses and regular new content via social media. Alexander studied mathematics and received his PhD in biostatistics on non-parametric statistics from the University of Göttingen in Germany. He has authored more than 70 scientific manuscripts in peer-reviewed journals and regularly speaks at international conferences, such as PSI and EADV. With more than 20 years of experience working as a statistician in healthcare, Alexander is working primarily on phase IIIb and IV (RCT, observational studies, HTA submission, commercialisation work) with some regulatory work, as well as some work within the early phases of clinical development. Alexander is interested in a broad range of methodological areas with a specific focus on helping pharmaceutical and biotech companies make better, data-driven decisions. In fact, this keen interest saw Alexander become the chair of the EFSPI/SPI SIG on benefit-risk, founder and chair of the data visualisation SIG and the Launch and Lifecycle SIG. Alexander has also served PSI as a board director responsible for communications. Alexander is a happy husband and father of three wonderful kids, who he credits for his continued passion and drive to help patients worldwide. In his spare time, Alexander loves running and listening to podcasts.

Jenny Devenport

I solve problems. Throughout more than 20 years as a statistician in the healthcare industry (public health, device and drug development, and medical affairs and access), my goals are to ask the right questions and develop optimal solutions to get patients the best care. I champion scientific curiosity, use of diverse data sources, effective measurement, and meticulous study design. As a leader and coach, I get people to exceed themselves by leaving their comfort zones, appreciating their strengths, building strategic collaborations, forming extensive personal networks, and aiming for impact locally and globally.

Currently I work in Product Development Data Sciences at Hoffmann La Roche in Switzerland, responsible for a team of programmers and statistical scientists with projects spanning the non-oncology portfolio from early stage through end of lifecycle. I also lead a community dedicated to creating and sharing best practices for collaboration and evidence generation to support access and clinical practice. Finally, I work externally with industry professional societies and special interest groups (including being the co-lead of PSI’s Launch & Lifecycle SIG) to identify and execute opportunities to advance the field.
